This is a story that has been written too many times in the last 2 years. The flooding that has impacted parts of St. Louis and Franklin Counties is heartbreaking. This is estimated to be a historic flood which obviously has unfortunate implications for people who live in St. Louis County.
Here are some of the resources I regularly am checking to see where we are with the flooding.
National Weather Service – Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service
This is a chart depicting where the flood waters currently are and where they are expected to crest and when. The link I’m providing is for the Meramec River in Eureka. You can update this for the flood station that is relevant to where you live or are travelinf.
https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lsx&gage=erkm7
This is what you’ll see when you visit the site. As I write this (5/1/2017) it shows that the water level is currently at 34.8 ft and is expect to crest at 44.9 feet sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. You can also compare it to the previous record (December 2015) of 46.1 feet to estimate the extent of damage we can expect.
Additionally, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, you can get an idea of the impact of the varying flood levels.
MODOT App
MoDOT’s free app is available both on iPhone and android and is an incredibly useful tool. It allows you to live stream from the traffic cameras at most major intersections. You can use this to see traffic conditions and road conditions.
